What is PDF Split?

PDF Split is the process of dividing a single PDF document into two or more smaller files. You can extract a specific range of pages, pull out individual pages, or break a large PDF into equal-sized chunks. Splitting is the reverse of merging and is just as essential when you need to share only part of a document or reduce file size for email.

Common use cases

Extracting chapters: Share only the relevant chapter of a long report with a specific colleague without sending the entire document.

Removing confidential pages: Strip out pages with sensitive information before distributing the rest of a document.

Reducing email attachment size: Email providers often impose a 10–25 MB limit. Split a large PDF into parts that each fit within the limit.

Archiving by section: Keep individual chapters or sections as standalone files for easier retrieval later.

How to specify page ranges

TimeSave PDF Split accepts flexible range notation. You can type multiple ranges separated by commas:

1-3 — pages 1, 2, and 3

5 — only page 5

7-10, 15 — pages 7 through 10, plus page 15

1-3, 5, 7-10 — a combination of ranges and individual pages

Each defined range is saved as a separate output file when you choose the "Split into multiple files" option, or all selected pages are combined into one file when you choose "Extract as one file".

Tips for best results

Preview the page thumbnails before splitting to confirm you have the right pages selected.

If you need every page as a separate file, enter each page number individually or use the page-picker mode.

Output files are numbered sequentially (e.g., document_1.pdf, document_2.pdf) so they sort correctly in your file manager.

Frequently asked questions

Does splitting reduce the quality of images in the PDF?

No. Pages are copied exactly as they are without re-encoding. Image quality, fonts, and all other content remain identical to the original.

Can I extract non-consecutive pages in one operation?

Yes. Enter them as a comma-separated list such as "2, 5, 9" and all three pages will be included in the output. You can also use the visual page-picker to click the exact pages you want.

Are there any file size restrictions?

There are no server-side restrictions because everything runs locally in your browser. The practical limit is your device's RAM. Files up to a few hundred megabytes work well on most modern computers.
